Spazz Attack is an underground performance artist, dancer and fashion icon who came up in the early L.A. punk scene alongside the Germs and Simpsons creator Matt Groening. He later collaborated with noted pop icons David Bowie, Tony Basil, the Talking Heads, Devo and Jackson Browne.

I've been fascinated by the dude since my parents first brought home Bowie's Glass Spider homevideo in '88 and I saw him lurching around on crutches during the weird drums-only version of "Up The Hill Backwards". He originally made his name at the Masque doing front flips that landed him flat on his back, the ultimate punk rock dance move that also landed him on the cover of Slash Magazine. Spazz Attack's distinct visual style usually involved perverted/updated versions of clown make up, Kabuki theater, flight suits, and a pervasive interest in aliens and weirdness.

SPAZZ ATTACK IS AWESOME!

Here's a best-of-youtube playlist that's missing some crucial footage (where are all of the Talking Heads' classic vids? WTF uTUBE?!?) but gives you a good idea of Spazz's general awesomness.

SPREAD THE WORD. SPAZZ ATTACK HAS A CULT.
