The mighty EXTREME ANIMALS are in the middle of a summer tour. They're doing two nights in every town, one a live performance by the band and one a screening on new visual material. Their fantastic CD "Let The Music Take You There" came out on Vicious Pop last year and was pronounced album of the year by Andrew Jeffery Wright in the 2008 year end issue of XLR8R, lauded by Vice Magazine, and featured on the 20 Jazz Funk Greats blog. Check out "Booty Melt" up above, tour dates and purchase info down there .

'Extreme Animals' music is what you'd expect Paper Rad's insane dayglo artwork to sound like if it started emitting noise, and it's no surprise given that 1/2 of the band is also 1/3 of the design collective. Put another way: imagine the drummer from Lightning Bolt drunk and half-assing it, playing a busted Nintendo with one hand while his friend scrolled through an oddly diverse iTunes library looking for exactly the right song to listen to and sampling tiny fragments of everything along the way. (The little UGK snip in "Black Bartholomew" really hooked me.) I dunno, check it for yourself - certainly not everyone's cuppa joe, but sweet manna for folks who can get with the artsty MIDI/RISD sound. Tracks to check: "Kid Forever," "Massive," "Booty Melt," "Die Zauberflote."' -Van Hammersly 08/25/2008 turntablelab.com
